Set in the plains of Africa, Metanoia follows a young african sorcerer as he journey to a holy land in order to complete a rite of passage to take the next step in his sorcery education.
This is a 3 minute animated short that I made as part of a team of 9 people, as the major assignment for our 3rd year of college at ‘the animation school’.
Due to the immense workload of making an animated short film and the fact that we only had a small team of 9 people, we each had to wear a lot of hats (taking on many roles within the animation pipeline). Thus while we each had our main specialisation roles, we all worked as 3D generalists on this project, picking up the slack where needed.
During the pre-production phase of the project, I was responsible for the following:
All rigging was done in Autodesk Maya.
I was provided with character models made by my team, and tasked with re-rigging them when the role of rigger was passed to me.
My animation responsibilities lay mainly on the blocking and animation of the 3D Previs, based on which, the animators would animate their individual scenes.
I was also responsible for some of the cleanup animation, and the cloth simulation seen on the sorcerer master’s skirt and belt.
