I wanted to do a study of Warren Louw’s work, and figured I’d get a better understanding of how he uses shape & form, proportions, and posing, by sculpting a 3D character using his ‘Strike a Pose’ tutorial in ImagineFX. This is how it turned out.
TLDR: MayaZbrush
Substance Painter
Arnold Render
Photoshop
The 3D model was blocked out in Maya using the guides in Warren Louw’s ‘Strike a Pose’ tutorial in ImagineFX.
The model was then sculpted out in Zbrush.
Following sculpting the model was pushed to Autodesk Maya for retopology, and back into zbrush for final detailing, using the newly UVd meshes.
The clean low poly model was pushed into Substance Painter and the high poly models were baked as normals. Guide lines were added in Texturing, as closely on model as possible.
Model was imported into Maya, rigged and weight painted. This allowed for posing of the model in various poses, so as to match the source material’s example poses.
Arnold was used to render out the posed model, and Photoshop was used to comp the images to match the original tutorial.
